Alex Chester
Born in Washington DC, Alex Chester was always interested in vehicles. From an early age he built go-karts and mini bikes. After attending Northeastern University he took a job at The Racers Edge, a small SCCA racing company. Alex spent a year building Spec Ford and Toyota race cars for both SCCA and IMSA racing and supporting the cars on the North East racing circuit. After his year was up he moved to Atlanta to follow his passion for automobiles.
Working first as a trainee, Alex worked his way up to Automotive Technician at Atlantic Classic Cars, the local Mercedes Benz dealer. Not only did he work during the week as a line tech, but also worked the evenings and weekends as the Mercedes roadside assistance tech. Besides becoming ASE certified, Alex learned everything there he could about Mercedes Benz vehicles. After a few years at the dealership a new job opening was offered.
Rolls Royce and Bentley Motor Cars was the next stop for Alex. After accepting a job as one of the 50 North American Rolls Royce\Bentley technicians, Alex was sent straight to Florida for training. Familiarizing himself with the product took a little bit of time (English vs. German) but the beauty of the craftsmanship was well worth it. During his 3 years at Rolls Royce/Bentley Alex achieved 6 dealer training certificates as well as some base training on BMWs. A little know fact is that during the time Alex was at the Rolls Royce\Bentley dealer, Rolls Royce and Bentley started putting BMW power plants in their cars. That’s right, some Rolls Royce’s and Bentley’s have BMW engines and transmissions. Could this have been a bit of foreshadowing?
The Rolls Royce dealership was bought out and moved, so it was time for Alex to move on. He settled with a technician position at a friend’s Mercedes\BMW shop. It was a small business and was just what he was looking for. Always with the hopes of opening his own shop, Alex absorbed as much information about the car lines and the best way to run a small shop. The shop was very busy and the variety of old Mercedes to brand new BMWs helped to keep Alex a well rounded technician. Finally the opportunity came to start his own shop. Bowman Motor Works was looking to sell their business and Alex was looking to join the ranks of the self employed.
Now, years later, Alex is living the dream as the owner and manager of Carma Motorsports. Specializing in BMW, Mercedes Benz, and special interest vehicles the shop stays busy. With years of accumulating proper tools and knowledge, Alex and the guys at Carma are able to fix any problems their customers come across. Alex continues to turn wrenches every day as well as pursue other interests for Carma. He was a builder and dealer for Eagle Roadster, the only street legal, open wheel car, (Indy Car style) is a dealer for E-Glide electric skateboards, is a Sikk Bike MX dealer (and builder of the only street legal Sikk bike in the country), helped Atlanta Segway with marketing, and is currently working on a Carma Track day race car. Stay posted for what he is up to next.
